HS game, 10-0 bottom of 7th, 2 outs. Hit to left field, the ball hits practice ball left on field from previous innings. F7 picks up practice ball and throws to 2nd for tag on runner for 3 out.

What would be the ruling?

I'll take a shot - Never had this come up in a game.

It might depend upon how quickly the 'bad' ball is recognized but assuming it's recognized right after the call, I'd call 'Time'; judge the value of the hit (sounds like a single - right? but, HTBT) and place the BR on the base equal to the value of the hit.

Can't penalize the offense because the defense couldn't clean up after themselves.

Oh, and pay closer attention during the inning change-over to ensure all practice balls leave the field.

I'm probably wrong here - let me know if I am.

:wow:

No mercy rule in that league? :(

No umpire(s) paying attention? :BD::TD:

My ruling is: "Bad umpire! Bad! Go sit in the corner! No beer for you!" :BD:

:angel4:

You could rule that R1 be returned to first base, given the "loose equipment" matter. Defense can't benefit from a ball they left out there.

And whatever became of the game ball?

(Man, I love these little smilies).

Sorry, left out a few items. Home team had 0. I was not there, I was told about this situation 2nd hand. After the 3 out call, the OC took it up with the UIC apparently didnt get anywhere. He then went and retrieved the correct (whiter) ball from left field. UIC called it a game and left the field.

I thinking the loose equipment rule also.

I would award BR 1B and go with the loose equipment rule as well. Like Dragon I am not sure that is correct, but that is the way I would have called it on the field.

Could have been 9-0 since the 4th, and the VT scored 1 in the top of the 7th to make it 10-0. B) You have to give the HT a chance to make that run up. :bang::HD:

I too like the smileys. Wish I could use more than 8 at a time (including quotes).

The limit has been removed...

We'll just have to see how this goes.

That Warren.

Always thinking. I think in this case, yell at my partner on the bases in between innings. Give the kid a single, scoop up both balls and go to DC, ok, if you give me grief on this, he gets 2nd....

BrianC14 just went a little too far by saying:

NO BEER. You might as well take his game fee as well. :fuel:

I agree with NOUMPERE with setting the limit to zero. :wave:It's only fair.
