BigBlue4u Posted January 27 Report Posted January 27 Thanks to everyone who participated in this question. I posed this question to the most authoritative person I could think of. He is an MLB official scorer and in fact, was the MLB official scorer at Dodger Stadium for the past two World Series. Here is his answer: Third out was at third and a caught stealing. Batter becomes a strikeout and whether he reaches first or not, fielder’s choice is the scoring entry. But this is a 4-out inning. B4 leads off next inning. Looks like this could be a pretty interesting trivia question: How can a team create a four-out inning? For those who missed it, this is the original question: Two out, runner at second. 2-2 on the batter. (B3) On the next pitch, he swings and misses for strike three. However, the catcher drops the ball. Meanwhile, the runner from second attempts to advance to third and is thrown out. The question is, who is the lead-off batter the next inning. B3 or B4? 1 Quote

Having ripped the scorekeeping pages out of my Rulebooks to use them to, you know what, I am not qualified to answer but I’m going to Facebook mode where every swng dck can post his opinion. A K does not have to be an out and is not in your OP. The K and FC does not result in a fourth out. Quote

The Man in Blue Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Then your scorekeeper friend got this one wrong. I am not questioning his scoring of the FC; I am saying this is not a fourth out situation. In OBR, 5.09(c) defines "the apparent fourth out" via an appeal. Quote
