MLB Ejections 164-5 - Additon, Little (STL x2)

HP Umpire Ryan Additon ejected Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas (throwing at Cubs batter Ian Happ) and 1B Umpire Will Little ejected Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol (arguing Mikolas' ejection) in the top of the 1st inning of the #Cubs-#Cardinals game. With two out and none on, Happ swung at a 2-0 slider from Mikolas, Happ's bat on his backswing (aka follow-through in NFHS) hitting Cardinals catcher Willson Contreras in the head, injuring Contreras and forcing him out of the game. Mikolas' next pitch to Happ was located inside and shoulder-high for ball three while the subsequent pitch resulted in a hit-by-pitch, striking Happ in the hip. At the time of the ejections, the game was tied, 0-0. The Cubs ultimately won the contest, 10-3.

This is Ryan Additon (67)'s 1st ejection of 2023.

Isn't a 5-game suspension for a pitcher basically a 1-game suspension?

And the hbp was unwarranted in response to Happ accidently hitting Contreras. Especially after the first attempt missed. Miles was just an idiot in this situation.

ah, the old Charlie Lau extended back swing law of unintended consequences/collateral damage.

so, if the catcher backs up, isn't that putting the catcher at a severe disadvantage by increasing the amount of time (start of the pitch to the release of the ball by the catcher/distance) the catcher has on the exchange when a runner tries to steal a base.

and, does going back decrease the catcher's stats on stealing a pitch that looks low for his pitcher, since now the optics will show the glove almost on the ground to catch the low pitch, therefore losing the catchers request for a raise during contract time due to how many pitches they can steal/analytics for their pitchers. where is Scott Boris on this for helping out his catcher.

and, while these guys get 5 and 1 days off, how many days does the catcher get off for concussion protocall, (15) which number of games played probably factors into contract negotiations, and factors into the amount of total times getting concussions leading to a shorter career like the Eric Lindross syndrome of the physician not signing off on the physical due to the next concussion could cause severe permanent damage forever.
