Ejected Travel ball coaches

Gene Steratore on the Pat McAfee show last week said what he'd say to a college coach:

 

"What you're doing right now, it's not good for the game. We're held accountable for that. If you continue to cross it, I'm not really whacking you, you're whacking yourself."

 

 

 

Steratore was great on here. Not a big McAfee fan, and he looks like he's about to show you his O face the whole time, but a worthwhile watch.

Well...maybe....I've dug into the OBR a little bit on this...and we don't have a "clubhouse" to send them to...you have some judgment in "vicinity of his team's bench or bullpen" It also reads "shall leave the field immediately and take no further part in that game" if they're that close...are they still taking part in the game? On fields with no clubhouse, (essentially all of them) they need to be far enough away..."out of sight & sound" is easy for everyone to understand...when they say "where do you want me to go?" Well..."I don't want to hear or see you...go there"

MLB umpires make upward of $300,000 a year. Nobody's leaving MLB due to "umpire abuse" 

But umpires are leaving in droves in parts of the country due to umpire abuse. 

You have the ultimate authority to forfeit the game...again...under the rules they're claiming to use. After a warning..."willfully & persistently violate any rules of the game" If their conduct is still ejectable from the stands...they gotta go. 

Finally, as others have said, it may come to a point where you simply choose to not work those games if you're not feeling supported. There's also a good chance you're working alone. You have to do things differently when you're working alone too...there's no partner to watch from the field who is sniping you from the stands. Abuse isn't tolerated from the stands either...especially ejected personnel. Ridiculous.

Remember this:

1. If the coach comes out wearing baseball pants, be careful

2. if the coach comes out wearing baseball pants and spikes, be really careful

3. If the coach comes out wearing baseball pants, spikes, and, on the back of the game shirt it says "Head Coach", you may as well get a head start on the ejection report.....

 

...these guys think this is for real....

I've had the privilege of hearing Gene speak a few times...lines like this is why Gene was one of the best...his ability to diffuse situations and still maintain control of the game.
