I’m going to tell you all right now – Richardsons... heck, just about anybody’s hats, are easier to crease than New Era Full-Crown hats!

Clothespins work rather well at holding the crease so it sets. I myself favor stainless steel compact clothespins like these:

I use binder clips (along with some strips off an old t-shirt because the first time I used binder clips for a full season, they rusted and transferred that to the hat).

There is a way to fold a cap to get that crease, without ironing, but I can't recall things from this morning, let alone 40 years ago.
