2017 Goals

I am not sure if anyone else is like me but i try to start each year with goals for the year.  My umpiring goals are pretty simple but i am also very excited to hear/read your goals as well.

My goals are as follows:

1) I want to attend at least 1 camp/clinic by the end of the Summer.

2) I want to find a mentor umpire that is willing and able to invest in helping me reach my goals and aims/objectives.

3) I will reach out to at least 5 other people to help me create a plan to reach my long term objectives.

My objectives/aims

Short term:

1) Be assigned Varsity level HS games

2) Be assigned a Championship level game

Long term:

1) Umpire a college game

I think you've already met those goals.

 

Now, if the goals are "TO ATTEND" and "TO FIND" (as opposed to "want to...") you might have a better chance of reaching them.

Ever heard of "SMART" goals? Specific, measurable, achievable, timely.

And that, boys and girls, is what I've learned in 11.5 years of public school.

And you will use them for the rest of your life - I am in public safety, and these come up all of the time. Pay attention to what you learn in school - if I would have known then what I know now - I would have paid a lot more attention.

If you would have known then what you know now, you wouldn't have needed schooling at all.

Also I will get rid of the "I want to" part.  Thanks and these are based on SMART goals.

Specific, Measurable, Action based, Realistic, Time-Based

My goals for 2017:

Short term:

1) Spend less on equipment that I probably don't need but really want.

2) Clean out the stuff that I don't need but want and sell or donate it.

3) Start working out earlier to make the transition from school/couch to field easier.

Mid-term/in season:

1) Graduate from Rutgers

2) Attend a clinic before the season to get back into it. 

3) Read the rule book more during the season than years past.

4) Keep working out during the season even when 4 games a day makes me want to eat McDonalds and go to sleep.

5) Work varsity HS games on a regular basis.

6) Maintain head height.

Long term goals:

1) Give the same hustle on game 300 as game 1

2) Spend less on equipment that I don't need but really want and try to justify because it's close to Christmas and I've been sticking to earlier goal.

3) Attend pro umpire school in 2018.

4) Work a state playoff game.

5) Attend law school.

6) Balance law school, baseball, work and social life.

That should be a short list of the goals that I have floating around.
