Whoever that joey person was in the article comments hit the nail on the head.  All I kept thinking was "couldn't this person find better pictures that show an umpire in proper equipment"  Field umpire with an indicator in hand, backwards hats, dirty hats, shoes.  No wonder everyone wants to "Kill the ump" because the perception is unkempt, untrained guys who think the game is all about them.

training the right way is the key.  I work with guys over and over that get no training and do the same sloppy things and run into the same issues year after year.

I am not blaming only the umpiring of certain people.  Travel teams have now become over saturated with the parents thinking "my boy's gonna make it"  and if they feel the umpire in any way has caused their son to drop a few points in their BA which will cause that D-1 coach to not look at them, "THAT BUM IS WRONG"

If anyone watched this week's episode of Law and Order SVU, it was an extreme example of the levels of craziness certain parents will go to get their little johhny or little suzie what they want.
