And by arguing and getting thrown out, Maddon accomplished his goal even better than if he had the conference in the first place :)

It was pretty damn quick - the players go to mound, West started yelling at them to get back pretty quick.

 

I was surprised watching it.It did not seem to be worth getting tossed over.

Probably would have been better if just letting the catcher go out and talk to the pitcher until West goes and gets him. Maddon drew the acknowledgment of West by yelling at the catcher. You can even see West tap the catcher so he can listen to Maddon from the dugout. Maddon could have stalled better and I'm surprised that an experienced manager like him didn't do that.

What I was laughing about was the bozo ESPN commentators saying Joe West was interjecting himself into the game.  Think they might want to do a little research on the guy.  This is "Cowboy Joe" the ump who called a strike on Raul Mondesi while Mondesi was still in the dugout, and Joe had called for him to come up to the plate several times.

As MLBAM has been pretty good at recently, this video doesn't capture the entire event. The video starts as Montero has just returned to home plate having already gone out to talk to Hendricks after the HR. It looks like West wanted to prevent Montero from going out a second, consecutive time.
