For the guys that have cut off the sternum pad. Has anyone done nothing to the holes that are left? And if so will the holes snag your shirt?

For those who have sanded the holes down? Did you fill them? If so with what? Did you paint after the sanding? Or did you just work your way to the highest number sandpaper and leave it sanded?

I cut mine off years ago and like the fit much better. I left the holes alone and haven't had an issue with them. Never snagged my shirt and you can't really see them.

Never considered removing the sternum pad. I have wondered what benefit the pad gives (one would suppose all padding has a benefit and maybe the sternum pad reduces the chances of a reflection under the chin), but at the same time I'm curious as to how removing it would change the fit?

Thank you.

I've had two occasions (in 10 years) where a ball bounced up and actually wedged between that sternum pad and the throat protector of my mask, stopping it shy of hitting me.

Still, I'm thinking that I might like to remove the pad, just to slim down the protector a bit. What I was thinking of doing is cutting a piece of thin gauge plastic, a little larger that the pad itself, and gluing that in place over the old holes. Maybe even painting it first, dark grey or black, since it's visible through the neck opening of my shirt.
