I am currently watching the replay of from I believe Sunday's game between Penn St and Rutgers. The home plate umpire has had two very close plays at home, and he has left his mask on the whole time while making calls on runners coming into home. Isn't that odd? Are they teaching it differently now? When I went to school, one of the very first things they taught us was to take off your mask.

Thoughts?...

He is wearing a HSM if that makes any difference

Was he wearing glasses?

One of the drawbacks of (some) HSMs is when in the act of removing it, they upset eyeglasses. If he was wearing eyeglasses, perhaps he didn't want to chance it during a close play and risk his glasses askewed on his face or, worse, coming off completely.

 There's a solution for that.
