SU coach puts players safety first and has to forfeit game. It was a SWAC crew and IMO they should be reprimanded in some fasion. Had some nasty weather in South LA last night w/ some pretty energetic storms. Game was televised live so there is visual evidence. I had a HS game about ten miles South on the Miss River and we called it at 4:30, not sure what umpires were thinking. Think umpires were grossly wrong in this situration. Can't believe they put those involved in danger. We had someone die from a lightning strike in BR several years ago. Coach Cador had a game at a SWAC tournametn postponed several years ago bc of gun shots near the field and now this. Another reason why all colleges and most HS should have the lightning monitor. Heck, even several little league parks here have them.

Since the winning coach's story is a bit different, I'd love to know the true story.

In Fed, they require a 30-minute wait after the last lightning or thunder. I don't know NAIA, NCAA, or MLB's stance, but it makes sense to me.

yawetag,

From the NCAA Appendix C/Lightning Guidelines:

When considering resumption of a game, NSSL staff recommends that

everyone ideally should wait at least 30 minutes after the last flash of

lightning or sound of thunder before returning to the field of activity.

Do you guys not have cut-and-dried lighting rules?

We do, and it doesn't require any fancy technology. Just a clock, eyes, and ears.

It has been a very, very long time since we have had any lightning related incidents.
