I am looking to get a back up chest protector for my Unequal, and I am trying to chose between the WV Gold and the new model Douglas (with at Team Wendy retrofit in the future). I found no results using the search function (does it work anymore?), so I am putting it out for discussion.

Thanks.

@Blue23II I guess the first thing is the new Douglas is really the same design as the older black models, the newer ones are made with the grey colored plates not black. The padding is already low profile and very protective. I think it would be an excellent choice as a back up or main CP.

Why do umpires need backup chest protectors? I can see keeping some extra parts around in case something breaks, but I don't know why you would need more than one at at time.

I just got a back up for my Douglas a little over a month ago. My personal reason is because I work most of the time five days a week sometimes six working games. Tennessee is very hot and humid and when I need to clean the padding due to excessive sweat build up, there isn't enough time to clean and dry the padding before its  needed for another game. I split my weekly games between the two cp's.

The main reason I have more than one chest protector is during summer tournaments where you may do more than one plate in a day I really don't like putting on wet gear. Have two sets of shins also.

its' all there but ....until the search function is up and at it's full function ........

I think it depends on how you're built .....some love the Gold, some love the Douglas.  The Douglas as it sits is more low profile than the Gold for sure .....

Why not a second Unequal?

If you are going to TW your backup, I much prefer the Gold with a TW retrofit. The retrofit on the Douglas seems to make the neck opening a little tighter. I am in the process of trying to loose some weight and see if I like the douglas any better. If not I will probably try to sell it. With my college season over and my high school playoffs a week to week thing that could end any day I am about to put some of my extra stuff up for sale.

My Douglas TW retro is softening around the neck and feeling much more comfy ....but agree w/ @slo8140 .... the retro narrows the neck opening
