Why do coaches ask you to rescind an ejection after the game?

FED game today I had a player ejected for initiating malicious with the catcher on a play at the plate. R1 dropped his shoulder and led with his upper arm catching the catcher square in the chest in an attempt to "bowl him over". I called time immediately, signaled an out and the EJ.

At first the coach argued that the catcher had dropped the ball and was obstructing his runner, so he had "a right to the baseline". Eventually, he returned to the dugout and the next half inning a new player replaced the EJ.

After the game, on our way off the field, the coach said, "Nice job guys. Hey, you're not gonna keep that ejection are you?". My response was, "I have to, I have no choice". He responded, "it will save you time if you just don't file the paperwork." I responded again, "I have to, I have no choice" and we left.

It irritates me that a coach would rather see his player play than learn from the consequences of his actions. It irritates me even more that some umpires have actually caved to this kind of "be a good guy" pressure because I know they have!

Is this a HS FED game or a  youth game played under FED rules? It really makes no difference, the ejection stands either way. But if a HS coach asks me this, I am reporting the ejection AND the attempt by the coach to have it ignored. I surely hope no other umpire has fallen for this individuals manipulations of the rules.

This was a HS FED game. After the EJ he also argued that his player couldn't have been malicious because the other player had 30 pounds on him. I filed a report with the state.

His assistant made the comment, "why don't you just let the players decide the game" and then addressing the replacement player said sarcastically, "make sure you don't run into anyone!". I pulled off my mask and pointed right at him and said "This ends right now!". He acknowledged me and kept his mouth shut the rest of the game.

I know part of you wanted to eject the assistant immediately.

I probably would have.

Also, the mask doesn't come off unless someone's leaving.
