It gives you a better angle on a pick off and also looks better, IMO. It does seem redundant at times as F2 usually doesn't throw down, but when he does, you're ready.

JonnyCat, I agree with runners on 1B only or 3B only.  With multiple runners I still stand and take a small step forward eye on F2 or the ball, don't know why I do that.  Will have to figue that one out.

I usually go to deep B and shade a bit closer to second base.  If the SS and 2B are in and pinching the middle I will take a few steps back from deep B.   A few guys I have worked with almost stand where the 2B would normally be playing.  Our chapter doesn't really care where we stand as long as we have a good angle on pickoffs and stay out of the way of the SS and 2B.
