I'm scorekeeping for a woman's ASA game and the umpire turns to ask me for the score and I ask, "Why do you hold your indicator in your right hand instead of your left?" She replies,

"Does it make a difference?"

"I...guess not, it's just that you're the only umpire I've ever seen who holds it in their right hand."

"Oh. I guess it's just 'cause I'm right-handed, I like holding it in my right hand. I like it better."

"I was taught it should only go in your left hand."

"WHERE'D YOU HEAR THAT?! WHO ARE YOU TO QUESTION ME?! YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT UMPIRING!!"

"I...yeah. I guess. Sure. Okay. Home is up by one."

I can't believe I'm employed by these people. :banghead:

The Pope? No problem. Glad to hear you think MST'd be proud of me. She's actually an okay umpire except her mechanics suck and she's misinformed about indicators.

Especially if the umpire didn't know the OP was a peer.  We hear so much crap from others that it's very easy to jump to the conclusion that anything new we hear in a similar situation is crap.

Yeah, alright, I'll admit it was an inappropriate time to ask but she still shouldn't have blown up on a 14 year old. Especially one who says indicator and not clicker and one who's wearing an ASA shirt and an MLB umpire cap. :shakehead:

I am convinced Rulekeep could piss off the Pope BUT she just asked a question and got back a sarcastic remark!

 

She WAS correct after all and betty bozo the crap ass umpire who IS HOLDING IN THE WRONG HAND got offended.

 

This world needs more like you AND Mike Taylor would be proud of you!
