First HS ejection

This is my 3rd year working HS ball, but today I finally had an ejection.  

 

Bottom of 5 in the second game of a JV DH.  R1, kid hits a ball to SS, they get R1 on the force and then they whip it over to first to nail the B/R a step early.  

 

Kid screams something, looks at me, takes off his helmet in live ball area then proceeds to slam it on the ground.  Bye!

 

Each year the behavior of these kids gets worse and worse.  Surprised it took this long for one of them to use the equipment in protest.

Looks like he may have some good game management skills the finaly got overridden by a young man that  wanted to go home early.

Finally as in "I can't believe it took so many games for something like this to happen".

I've only worked seven regular season games so far, but the behavior of these kids has been off the charts bad compared to previous years.

Yes. I try to keep kids and coaches in the game (to a point). I don't know how many times I've told kids to "stop whining" or "we don't do that here" this year. Can be as simple as a kid staring me down when I don't give him a strike or a batter doing the "why me" routine if I call a strike. These are 15 and 16 year old kids playing JV baseball. Walk back to the mound and get in the box. Enough of this temper tantrum garbage.

Haven't had (knock on wood) any serious problems with coaches thus far. Just been a lot of whiny kids so far.

Yes. I try to keep kids and coaches in the game (to a point). Usually a blank state shuts down all problems. However, I don't know how many times I've told kids to "stop whining" or "we don't do that here" this year. I agree with scrounge. If I toss a coach specifically, or a player in travel ball or adult leagues, I just tossed a whiny person usually.

If I toss someone in a high school game, I question what did *I* do wrong.

Also, filling out an ejection report and needing to get with the offending school, partner and assignor is a hassle.

In summer ball, if you don't like someone you can get rid of them easily and the game continues. No restricting them to the dugout or forms to fill out.

I can totally vouch for the problems happening in younger kid travel baseball. 90% of my post high school games will be 15U or older. I have one tournament with 13U.

I can't speak for your area, but I would take the high school coaches in this area any day over most summer coaches of "travel/select" teams. Most of the summer coaches I run across are actually fine, but the ones that are jackwagons aren't held accountable by anyone like high school coaches are.

I can't remember the last time I ejected anyone.  I have (however) confirmed their desire to no longer participate in that days contest when they wanted to eject themselves.
