New ruling   1.15 (a)

No fielder, regardless of position, may use a fielding glove that falls within a PANTONE color set lighter than the current 14-series

Could someone expand on the 'current 14 series' and which colours are be referred to here?

That was last years rules change and the same question was asked then and i never saw an answer.

Tks mate, Our season in Oz here starts in Sept, so this new rule has just come in.  I understand that Pantone refers to the colour systems of that company, but I couldn't see anywhere where the 'current 14 series' is defined.  Huum....

The colours look pretty varied- from  grey-greenish-brown to bad pink colour.  Besides the pitcher, where coloured glove is already covered in the rules,it is a strange rule I think.  Have you ever enforced it, without carrying a colour chart around in the kit bag?

I think the rule is written very poorly.  A) Who knows Pantone charts?  Only reason I somewhat know them is from a marketing/graphic design background. B) A Pantone spectrum like you said is about shades not color. C) No way would I carry this chart with me, just like i don;t carry a rule book.

I doubt a coach will ever care about a center fielder using a 14 series Pantone.  As for the pitcher well we can handle that because it is very defined.  Needless rule add if you ask me.

Yes, agree it'll be hard to maintain that rule,  but thanks for clarifying it.  I'll forward it to the rest of our Aussi team.

It's designed for MLB and not for the leagues the rest of us do where the players get the gloves free from the mfg and the mfg can be sure their legal.  At the sporting goods store they will sell you whatever you want.

More or less what this rule is doing is making it illegal to use a light gray or white colored glove by any fielder. Thus making our job easier for catch no catch etc. more or less if you think that the glove may be about the same color as the baseball and it would be difficult for you to discern the difference between the glove and baseball from a reasonable distance I would say to the fielder that he needs to change his glove. This is rarely a problem because most gloves are mostly brown or black in color.
