flastyle727, I just got off the phone with one of the two persons in charge, basically they open it up to umpires of all levels that have a  desire to move up and learn more about being a better umpire.

He said that they will group attendees by their experience level. As it says on their website, it is a three day camp with the last half of day two and day three are live games that all participants will umpire in. The instructors will grade you on your performance during the games.

They have local MS teams coming in to play the games, and he said that they know this is for the training program and there will be no player or coach comments, no line up substitution rules or anything. It will strictly be field mechanics, balls & strikes, and safe & out. These are what they are working on, focusing on, and grading you on. If you are already doing HS it may or may not be good for you. By reading the instructors bios, most of the instructors seem to be top shelf umpires. Let me know what you think.

I attended the Mid Tenn Umpire Camp this weekend and it was great and well worth the cost. I had the pleasure of being taught by five collegiate umpires, two of which are current SEC umpires. There was some great mechanical work taught as well as some intense field training. I was definitely exhausted, mentally and physically,  at the end of each day. These guys did a great job.

No, it is open to anyone that wishes to attend. They had everyone arranged based on their  experience level which was a good thing. For experienced TSSAA umpires like you flastyle727, they did a great three man mechanics class, and put it to use in at least 3 games.

Seems like a good time. Glad you enjoyed it. Jeff Wright probably did a wonderful job teaching as usual!
