Batter swings, fair(?) ball off his hands

In a Little League game I had today, the batter swung at a pitch, the ball hit him in his knuckles mid-swing, and the ball went about ten feet in front of home plate. The kid went down immediately, and I called a foul ball. The kid ended up being switched out from injury and a replacement was brought in to complete the AB. Regardless, should this be a foul ball for the ball going off the batter while in the box? Or should I have let the play go as a fair ball?

As stated, neither. Swinging strike, ball is dead when the batter is hit. If he had checked his swing he would have been awarded first.

If I am seeing the event correctly in my head I have it as a dead ball and a strike.  Batter was hit by a pitch that he swung at.  Despite the old playground rules the hands are not actually part of the bat so there is no way this is a fair ball, it could be foul if you believe that it hit the bat and then the knuckles.

What if the batter already has two strikes on him when he swings. Is this recorded as a strike out (dead ball) or a foul ball and resume with a two strike count?

As stated, neither. Swinging strike, ball is dead when the batter is hit. If he had checked his swing he would have been awarded first. 

 

Assuming that the ball was not in the strike zone.

 

(I wrestld with how a check swing plays out with "unless . . .  The batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball" -- I guess the check of the swing is an attempt to avoid the ball.)
