Runner at 1st base - no outs.  Batter squares to sacrifice bunt.  Bunts the ball back to pitcher who fields the bunt cleanly and immediately turns and throws to 2nd but not in time to get the runner.  Batter is now also safe at 1st.  This was scored as a fielders choice.  Was FC the correct scoring?  If the runner was OUT it would be FC.  If the batter was OUT it would be a SAC. It just seams odd to me that if the Batter is OUT it doesn't count as an "at bat".  But the fact that ALL were safe the batter is charged with an "at bat" and goes against his ave. and his on base %,  etc.  I realize a ground ball would be a FC, but should an attempt to sac be scored the same way?  Just don't seem right.

Sacrifice under OBR.

The rules are available on line, but here's the relevant part:

Score a sacrifice bunt when, before two are out, the fielders handle a bunted ball

without error in an unsuccessful attempt to put out a preceding runner advancing

one base, unless, an attempt to turn a bunt into a putout of a preceding runner fails,

and in the judgment of the official scorer ordinary effort would not have put out the

batter at first base, in which case the batter shall be credited with a one-base hit and

not a sacrifice;

And, unless its MLB, no one cares (or at least should care)

Man.....you guys are GOOD.  When scorekeepers ask me how to score something, my usual response is either "I don't know how you score it, I don't keep a book", "don't care how you score it" or "give it to the catcher, the catcher gets' all of the junk".
