Keeping score and "The Card"

I know alot of talk has taken place on here lately about knowing the score and the fact that in some places we have to have the coaches sign the scorecard after the game.....

I just wanted to post a couple pics of "The Card" that all of USSSA in AZ mandates. 

There are leagues now that have copied this and are using them as well.....

We have the same Inside of the card but the outside part is a bit different.

No, we don't do that..... We just confirm with both scorekeepers that everyone is on the same page....

I remember that first time I did one of these tournaments. The TD handed me the card.. what is this I ask? the score card, she says. I replied, Umpires don't keep score that's the coaches job. Her Response........We Can't trust the coaches.

 

At least she was honest.

Actually, I think the Innings Pitched is even more important since there are strict guidelines for it..... Coaches have been known to try and skirt the rules.

When we turn the card in to the TD after each game, the first thing they look for is the IP and then the final score.

Ah, yeah.  That's like saying, Scribner's "The Sun Also Rises" is a great book.

In Nations tournaments we keep a card.  The only things we record are the inning by inning score and the outs pitched by each pitcher.  They go by "outs pitched" in Nations, not "innings pitched."

 

For the inning by inning score, I just ask the HT scorekeeper.   

 

I don't mind all that.  What I do mind is having to ask for the managers to sign the %$&!# card.

They were one of them.  The other was ....

 

The books had two minor differences, one of which caused quite the discussion back on rso (I think) back in the day.

At one of the complexes I VERY RARELY work at, not only are the umpires required to track the score and get signatures after the game, they also are responsible for changing the base and pitching distances if the game levels on that field are not the same for both time slots.  Does that happen anywhere else?  I thought that's what field crews were for?

Oh, and I'll bet the umpires were supposed to sweep off the bases and the pitching rubber between innings...just to keep things looking tiddy.
