If a player steals home and crosses the plate and then the pitch crosses the plate and it is strike 3 and the 3rd out, does the run count. player scored before pitch crossed the plate.

The runner has to reach the plate before the "Time of the Pitch" for this run to count.  The "Time of the Pitch" is when the pitcher is committed to pitch and not when the ball is released.  still no run.

 

And 60 feet in a second is about 40 miles per hour.

Mathmatically speaking yes, but there are to many HTBT moments in that hypothetical. I have to many assumtions. I have to assume I can call the strike and safe at home at same time. 

 

But yes, in slow motion in a prefect world it would be a timing play and run would count.

You guessed wrong.  Its an "out by the batter before reaching first" play.  Probably needs a catchier name so people can remember it.

The player crossed home at the time of pitchers releasing the ball. There was a full second in between player crossing home and pitch crossing the plate. This is not a hypothetical. One of my players did this yesterday. Umps talked and run counted but I got the feeling that they were not 100 percent positive of the call.

If the pitcher had initiated his pitching motion prior to the runner touching the plate (which, from your description, he had), the run should not have counted.

thanks. that is what i was looking for. And they are 11 year olds at 50 feet. pitch was about 40mph.

Don't have the LGR at work, but I'm thinking that the one we are looking for is 4.09 (a) exception.
