I do not know this Umpire personally but the following is a message I received from a friend today:

Here is a weird one. I had 2 games friday and 6 saturday with the same partner. He had what he thought was leg cramps friday. He felt 100% saturday until the 4th game then got slower and slower enough that I had to cover 2nd and 3rd from home. He said he was ok and only asked me for some advil. Sunday he was on other games but sunday night I get a email that he passed away saturday night. We left our last game saturday night @ 1125.

Guys take care of yourselves out there.

Please keep the family in your prayers.

Rolo, my condolences to you, and prayers to the family. My association lost a good umpire, and better friend over the past offseason. Mid-30's, and seemed in good health. Died of an apparent massive heart attack in the middle of the night. This on top of losing our President 5 years ago to a ruptured aorta. Older guy, but still a great umpire, and a mentor to myself and many others.

Very sad, my condolences to all.

I had those 'leg cramps' 10 years ago, just kept letting them go, thinking they were just cramps from working on a hard infield. I got swelling in my right calf and toes.

Eventually went to DR because it was not getting better. Ended up being DVT (blood clots) in the leg that went from my heel to my groin. I am now on blood thinners and regular check-ups to prevent them again. They are very dangerous, if the clot breaks loose (or any part of it) it goes to the heart, lungs first, then the brain.

I am a long time paramedic, so guys PAY ATTENTION to what your body tells you and stay safe out there!

that is a very good tip.  Pain like that is easy to ignore.
