Ump-Attire Shirts

Not sure if anyone mentioned it on here, but Ump Attire posted on Facebook today that they are making versions of their shirts without pockets for use on the bases. I was on their site and also saw they have added cream as well as black and navy long sleeve shirts. I would buy another short sleeve black shirt and would like to try their long sleeve shirt, but $33 for a short sleeve and $37 for a long sleeve is very steep for an umpire shirt.

I've never tried a UA shirt, but I'm tempted to try brands other than Smitty, and only when I absolutely have to buy another new shirt.

I bought one from someone on the board to try out. I haven't worn it in a game yet, but it is a nice shirt. I'm just not sure it's worth more than every other shirt out there.

I try not to spend more than $30 on a shirt. Last season I bought a set of Smittys only because they invoiced at $20 a piece. But they are showing wear by spawning random loops and threads, and those leave snag marks.

Just like everything else, you get what you pay for. I have one of each color of the Ultimates, and in some cases 2 of a color. I paid $28 for a Honig's cream last year, and have worn it maybe 5 times. I absolutely refuse to even take it out of the closet now. The collar has frayed, and the dang thing is smaller than my medium Ultimates (and it's a large)! I will gladly spend $5 more on an Ultimate an get 10 times more wear out of it! Just my .02

The cheaper honigs are from Pakistan and the collars frey all the time. The more expensive ones from Honigs are USA and made much better. I called Honigs about the Pakistani shirts and thet said they never heard of such a problem. Yeah Right!!!

Their new "Prosoft" shirts are made in China. Id rather spend $32 at Ump Attire for a made in USA shirt that is excellent than $28 for a made in China shirt that is average at best.

I wish we could sell it for less but with it being American made and using premium materials it simply costs more to produce. The price is a direct reflection of that.

But because it is American made, the nice thing, besides supporting American workers, we can get smaller batches produced which is why we ordered a limited number of umpire shirts without a pocket for those who requested them.

I am a big guy as over the years, I have upgraded from the six pack to the keg abs and wear 2XL shirts and have a size 20 neck. I have been wearing Honig's and Dalco shirts for the past 4 years. This Christmas I received some gifts from my mom-in-law and part of it was (2) 2XL Ump-Attire Ultimate Umpire Shirts in black. I was super excited cause I had heard these shirts were the best on the market and have always loved all of ump-attire's exclusive items in the past (ultimate ball bags, wilson titanium mask with all-black padding, ect). I opened the shirts and loved the material and I thought the shirt looked great compared to my others. My initial reaction is wow, these are even better than I imagined. It had a great soft breathable material that I could see would be very comfortable to wear and they had a great look as it didn't have the mesh look that my Dalco's and Honig's had. Then I tried it on....tight, really tight! Felt and looked like I was wearing under armour compression shirt (not skin tight, but definately not something I could fit a chest protector under). So I thought maybe they run small compared to the other brands so I sent it back to ump-attire and got (2) 3XL instead. Again the shirts came and looked great, pull the first one out of the package and try it on....the shirt fit much better...but the neck opening was really weird. I don't know what it was exactly, was the collar too short or was it the neck opening was too small but it looked so weird my wife and I were laughing at the way it looked when I put it on. To describe it, she said to me it looks almost like a medium shirt collar put on a 3XL shirt. The color ends were sitting on top of my shoulders! They didn't extend down in the front and there was zero chance I could ever think of even buttoning the top button. (Not that I ever do that, just trying to explain how weird the collar looked on me) Definately didn't have the same neck and collar measurements as my Honig's or Dalco shirts. I say to myself, maybe it's just this one shirt, maybe it was a mixup in the factory, so I pull the other out of the packaging and tried that one on too, again it has the the same look in the collar neck area. I was really disappointed as i was looking forward to these shirts and was planning on getting them in other colors also. Unfortunately I had to just return them and have ump-attire send me (2) 2XL Dalco's that fit fine and I'm currently using. Now maybe it is only the larger sizes (2XL and 3XL), cause I have heard nothing but great things about these shirts from others in review and like I said I think the shirt looked great and if they fit me correctly (like the Dalco and Honig's) I probably would have switched over to these shirts in every color. I buy almost all my gear from ump-attire and really love their stuff, so this was a little let-down for me. Or maybe it is just one of those things, where something just dosen't look right when you put it on yourself, but yet looks great on the majority of others.
