Just bought new pairs of each. I want to get the done the RIGHT way. You veteran poly wool wearers, I would like to know what you do from the time you get them from honigs to the time you put them on for the game and everything in between and after.

Do not iron them directly! I ruined a base pair doing that. My advice is to wash and then dry on low until the wrinkles come out and hang and dryclean every 10 games or so to keep them looking sharp.

I have 2 pairs, 1 I wash and dry the other I dry clean only-- I only use these for the big games.

Here is my $.02....

I wash my Honig's PW's on gentle cycle, cold with woolite. Have done this for a while and they come out fine.

If you hang them right away to dry, based on my experience they have not needed to be ironed. If you do iron, be careful not to use too high of a heat setting on the slacks. I would use a light cloth over the pants when ironing to avoid the "sheen" that can sometimes occur. But based on my experience, my PWs do not need ironing after washing. The creases are lined with a resin that gives them a permanent crease. This was recently discussed on the board here.

I plan on dry cleaning them. I'm talkin about getting them hemmed and what not. How should they be correctly tailored. With your gear on in a stance. Etc

Go to your seamstress/tailor, (whatever the PC term is) with all of your plate gear (leg guards, shoes, etc) and wear them while you're being measured.

You want the back of your pants to not drag on the ground so you want the bottom/back to be above the bottom of your shoes b/c of wet grass and/or poor field conditions...you don't want the back of your PW's dragging on the ground creating excessive wear.

I chose to have strips of leather hemmed into my plate PW's to create additional weight at the bottom of the pants.

Make sure your tailor/seamstress doesn't hem them like they would a pair of Dockers...your pants will not be heavy enough at the bottom. My pants have a few inches of relief at the bottom hem which is an "invisible hem" if that is the proper terminology. Get it done right, encourage your alterations place to call you w/ questions...b/c you want them to get it right the first time.
