Im currently watching a CDP quarterfinals game. I'm sitting down the lf line and the LFU (6 man) just balked the pitcher. Not saying it wasn't a balk (I was looking at my phone) but I think we can label this under OOO. Correct?

Wow.. Did the coaches complain that how could he see it but the four in the infield didn't call it? Or did the others umps call it and he echoed it? When I was at last year we were told don't call a balk from the line.

I read a 6 man mechanics manual once because I was just curious what the LFU and RFU actually do, and it said in bold.

LFU and RFU have no infield responsibilities. Neither a call on the batter (check swings) nor a call on the pitcher (balks) should ever be called by the outfield umps.

The LFU and RFU are supposed to just blend into the grass until a ball is hit near them. As an infield ump, I'd probably not even recognize his yelling and think it was just a fan. lol

It was very funny. All 5 other umps had a WTF? Look on their face. He also ran all the way into the mound to whisper to the pitcher what he did. The umps looked shocked but I guess they reasoned that any one could call a balk.
