A foul tip is a ball that goes directly from the bat to the Umpires mask without being touched by the catcher!

Wow I felt that one sitting in my chair. Brings up a point I always tell guys. Make sure that mask is loose enough that it will spin off and you are not absorbing the whole blow.

I always tell guys to make sure they have their plate gear. I have seen guys show up who were doing the field with no plate gear. Not a good thing to EVER do.

Another point of note, don't move with the catcher. Just before the pitch, you see him move with the catcher closer to the "kill zone"'. Even thought the move is not a big one, it was enough that he took it right in the kisser. if he stays in his initial position, that ball misses his face and hits him in the right left shoulder or zooms right by him. This game is a matter of inches. I can't tell you how many foul balls that have zipped right by my face mask. If I were an inch or two the other way I would have been k.o.'ed.
