My Wife Came to Watch

My wife almost never watches me work games. She will come out occasionally but it is very rare. She came out Saturday to watch me work a 11 yr old allstar game. She got there in the second and it was 21-0 at that point. Final score,31-0. Probably be a while before she does that again.

My wife stopped coming to my games back in the early 90s. It was after a 300 lb. mom followed me to my truck screaming in my ear about her sons 2nd inning strike out.

Glass half full. She could have got there at the beginning of the game. I remember one of the first game I've ever did was a 10U girls FP Little League game. They had a 6-run rule per inning. Top of the first the pitcher walked 9 straight batters, throwing maybe 4 strikes the entire time. At least half the balls rolled 1/3 of the way to home. I would have taken 31-0 in a heartbeat.

My wife came once. She told me all the stuff the fans were saying. I thought it was funny. They pissed her off. She wonn't come back. 2 ladies were contemplating how much we umpires make, somewhere in the $7 @ hour range and that we are all stupid, uneducated, lower class types she wouldn't let clean her pool. My wife pointed her out to me. i told her it was typical. ironically, that woman was parked next to me. I smiled and waved at her as I got into my Mercedes and drove away. Hahaha!

My girlfriend comes to the vast majority of my games. There was a weekend that she wasn't able to come along a few weeks back. In 3 mens league games i ended up with a massive bruise on the inside of my right thigh from a foul ball, another massive bruise at the top of my arm at the cuff from a foul ball(chest protector has plastic on the shoulders as well as padding) , a nut shot that bounced up from the underside and pushed any protection out of the way leaving me bent over, unable to move for about 3 minutes close to vomiting from the pain. In the third game there was a pitch in the dirt bounced up and curved that hit me behind the ear totally missing my mask and giving me a pretty nasty concussion. I've told her she is no longer allowed to miss any of my games
