Looks like Ozzie caught a Cardinals double switch mistake. I wonder if we will ever figure out if Matheny or Bob Davidson was directly at fault. Part of the reason I confirm all substitutions in the lineup with the coach making them (either by repeating it to them or letting them see me write down the change on my card) and then announce them (don't have an announcer at most of my games, so it is just go over to other coach/scorebook and state them).

Sounds like either Davidson told Ozzie the wrong think or Matheney told Davidson the wrong thing. But sound like both Ozzie and Davidson took it as the change was for the #5 slot in the order rather than F5. So when Craig went out on defense Ozzie came out to "get clarification" as only Ozzie can.

My favorite... #2... "have lineup card notarised... any local magistrate will do".

Barely edging out the bit about writing the lineup in crayon.

Aren't the managers are suppose to "go directly to the umpire" with 2 fingers up before they cross the line for the double switch and give that double switch to the umpire before proceeding to the mound? Otherwise, if they go to the mound first without holding up the 2 fingers and "going directly to the umpire", then the switches would be straight up on the line up card, position 9 (pitcher) for position 9 (pitcher) and position 5 (fielder) for position 5 (fielder), rather than 5 (fielder) for 9 (pitcher) and 9 (pitcher) for 5 (fielder), which is what a double switch is all about in the first place.

Craig was an illegal reentry and they should have lost Marte also. 3.03. Edited to add that the umpire must be notified of the double switch before signaling for the new pitcher.
