4 umpire mechanics

I am working my first ever 4 man game in a little over a week.

I will be the PU. Any advice, tips, tricks that I can use as PU and that I can pass along to my crew for their positions on the bases?

It's not hard. You still have pulled foot/swipe tag at 1b if asked. A & D need to be prepared for check swings. You move alot. Pregame everyone's responsibilities and communicate on the field

What level? The way pro 4 man works, somebody always goes out, even on clean singles. I doubt you have to go that far. 4 man basics, Any outfield coverages play off U2. If the ball isn't in his coverage area then he pivots just like BU in two man. If either wing goes out, the PU covers them. If the PU covers third then U1 should release and cover home. If he covers the touch at first then he needs to release and cover the plate himself.

Borrow somebodys CCA manual and have the crew review it. Its not as difficult as it looks becasue either its a hit or a ball in the infield and everyone stays where the are, or its a fly ball in your area that you go outon and stay out, or its a fly ball that someone else goes on out. This last one is the only one where you need to move.

Try to learn just your position that is where you go when someone else goes out and not all of them at the beginning.
