First Tournament ended up being a great expirience. I did nine games over two days, and had a lot of fun.

The coaches were dumber (or just more agitated) than usual, the parents were down right stupid...

Mom: "Where was that blue!? Come on!"

My thoughts: "In the batters box and at his ankle, and I'd love to come on and watch the game from behind the backstop!"

---

I got my first ejection too. 12U championship game, R3... Line drive to F9, who comes up throwing... The laser to the plate beats the R3 by a good 15 feet, and the catcher is just waiting for him... Instead of turning around, sliding, or giving up, the R3 shoves the catcher backwards.

I have an out on the tag and an ejection on the MC... He gave me a "What did i do?!" look and his manager came out, got him, and told his player, "You've got to slide dude." Even though this wasn't true, I let it be.

After escorting his player to the dugout, he asked me if it was possible for a warning and I said no because the shove was with obvious intent to dislodge the ball and initiate contact... He wasn't happy, but he understood.

Was it a good EJ? Anything you would do different?

MC is HTBT, but if you had it, good job running the kid, he will never learn his lesson if you let it go. Also, good job handling the coach. Never warn for MC, always eject, if that is the ruleset.

Glad to hear you had a good time! And, yes, the coaches/parents can be a trip. It's soooo easy to tell call balls and strikes from 100 feet away under a tent in an folding chair. :)

Well done on the EJ. Perfectly justified, in my opinion --- sounds like it was an obvious MC.

I had a similar EJ a few weeks ago in a tournament, 12U. Runner just lowered his shoulder and ran into F2, who was waiting with the ball. I immediately ejected the runner. Nobody argued. OC even thanked me between innings for teaching the runner a lesson. The parents on the defensive side started hollering at the parents on the offensive side, even after the EJ, but everyone settled down since F2 was not injured, or even shaken.

Did you have any reactions occur among the parents?

Actually it seemed liked the ejection sent something of a surprise through them. They got less rowdy, particularily towards me... Like a "Woah, this umpire is serious" or something. It was almost like they were afraid of me, which wasn't the idea... 0.o

Yeah, funny how that happens. I guess they realize they're not "in Kansas anymore." "Gee, you mean we're supposed to act like adults??"

I was gonna ask you how it went. Glad you didn't do 13 plates. Did you do all 9? Well handled EJ and explanation. Good game management. Learn from the experience and remember situations you've seen and talked about. This is how you get better. Good job.

The 13 plates is actually next weekend, and I am still scheduled for it. It'll be tough, but I'm going to try to make it through. If I need to make a change, I will do it. I'm not going to be some macho man collapsing because of exhaustion.

The nine were relatively even. I want to say it was six plates and three bases. This tourney pays plate and base umps even.

And thank you! I will.

This last weekend I had 6 games on Saturday. First 2 on the bases the next 4 on the plate. I was exhausted. Got to my hotel room and showered, layed in bed and passed out till morning. The had another 6 with 3 on the plate.

I was as tired as I could be. Of cour I'm not a young whiper-Snapper like yourself.

It's pretty stanrdar to do 6 Sat 5 sun or 5 Sat 4 Sun like that. Usually 1 less on Sun than Sat. Partner I used to have, I had plates every other Saturday. He had em every other Sunday. It worked for us.

I'm fairly certain that doing 13 plates in a weekend is asking to have a trip to the E.R. :2cents:

The best feeling in the world is the 1st game your are in the field after 2-4 games behind the plate, usually feels like you dropped 35 pounds. And hopefully they were in the morning and your partner has to deal with the sun and heat for the afternoon. and you can take the opportunity to make fun of him, "hey its hot out huh!!? hows the mask feel? Or - second guessing that hockey mask in July yet? Hows the crotch rot? Feet hot? Dude Im not wearing underwear, it's awesome. "Hey you need to move around behind the plate a little more" Nice salt ring around your hat, your an embarrassment. or my all time favorite "Man up- its not hot."
