We had a guy go to school, he was pretty good before he went, but when he came back he thought he was ready to work at the highest level. We put him on some decent games that presented him with some game management challanges, he failed. Mechanic wise he was excellent, great ball/strike, safe/out judgment, but he struggled with the pressure of the higher level. We worked with him and he has worked a D1 conference tournament the last several years.

Glad your buddy seems to have his head screwed on right and has enjoyed the fruits of going to the school and advance not only his umpire training, but his accelerated climb up the ladder.

He is not "one of those guys".. He has a level head and is a great umpires umpire. He helped me out getting into the next level. Some guys come back from school like that and I did work with one last year, was always talking " well at pro school".. and i would tell him, "this is College baseball, not the Minor League, things are a little different here"

Im not sure why they try to push there way into stuff.. let things happen on it's own.

I plan to be somewhat like your friend, Mazz. I'm not going to get a job in pro ball but to help me work my way up the college ranks. I talked to some people and should get some non-conference NAIA games next spring so we'll see!

I also hope to take the education I got from JEA and help teach some beginning umpires.

Did I not give you the name of the assignor in the KC area?.. btw there really isn't any non conference NAIA games.. they just play..LOL but it is a start, and that is what you need.. also going to JEAPU will help you get in to the MIAA which is really good baseball.. I happen to work a few series last yr.

Me and another guy got noticed while doing a tournament in the fall by a guy who does NAIA. I did a intersquad game and was told we might be doing some non-conference NAIA games because I have little experience at that level.

In conference, out of conference, who cares haha.

It's a foot in the door no less.

Well, I didn't make it to PBUC. Considering that this was the first formal training I've ever had though, I was incredibly pleased with my progress overall. I am going to try to work independent ball this summer and possibly give it one more shot next year. The competition was excellent and made me want to do better every time I got out on the field. Kcfan102 was my roommate, and we have discussed getting together to work a tournament or a few games this summer.

I should probably also mention that if Brandon (Kcfan) had went to JEA with pro ambitions, he could have went. EVERYONE in his cage group who had pro ambitions was selected to move on IIRC.

JEAPU was a trip of a lifetime. MoBlue was a terrific roommate. I made a million friend there that I will never forget. My entire cage group is going to PBUC... except for me. I would have gone if I had pro ambitions but the money and the travel, not to mention strong ties at home makes pro ball not something I want to do.

I know this site has a Harry's logo on it and every thing, but in my opinion, Jimmy's school is top notch.

Same. Would love to hear about your experiences at Evans, what you liked, what could be better, etc. Just to reiterate off my response in the other thread, I'm planning on going to one of the schools in 2012 and am trying to figure out which is a better fit for me. Thanks.

I have friends from both schools and both are top notch. Each have differences in methodology but both produce great umpires.
