Kevin,

I appreciate the comments and suggestions. The UMPY winners for the accessory category in 2009 were the Nutty Buddy and the Ump-Attire Ultimate Ball Bag. In 2010 the Diamond Deluxe Pro Umpire Equipment Gear Bag won that category.

I realize that the accessory category is pretty broad, and I've considered making a separate category for health and safety devices. Maybe next year. I hear that we will see a number of changes in umpire products next year, so it should be exciting. This year I think there is a clear accessory winner [how's that for a teaser?]

I'm still trying to finish up a few reviews before the UMPY announcements, including the new All Star CP and leg guards. So look for those reviews in the next few days.

There seems to be a lot of support for the Wilson titanium mask. Personally, I'm not a big fan of this mask, but I will reconsider based on this support.

My gear bag would disagree with you. I've owned wilson dynalite and titanium, allstar, Mizuno, and was forced to wear Easton and Rawlings in college. And out of all them my Nike out performs them day in and day out. Great piece of equipment. Superior quality, and light and comfy beyond reproach. So if you ask me it should go on the list and if Pete wants to look at one to compare just send me an email and I'm sure we can work something out. :meditation:

I didn't say it wasn't a good mask, as I'm sure it is really nice. My point is that isn't like other umpiring products because you can't buy it like you can the rest of this stuff, and it isn't technically an umpire mask.

IMO this is comparable to making the Riddell Power the chest protector of the year.

If it were priced logically, I would probably have already tried one, or turned to it permanently. But at a minimum of twice the price of a titanium, it would have to offer a drastic performance edge, and it can't. You can only get so light and so comfortable. There's no way that the thing can be worth a minimum of $400 (if available).

I suppose the next best thing to do would be to acquire a set of used Nike pads and harness for $200 or so, and put them on a Wilson titanium frame like that scumbag on ebay. Sell the titanium's pads and harness for $50 or so, and you'll net out at $350 or so, and everybody will think you're extra cool, like the guy who bought the fake Nike from that scumbag on ebay.
