I don't normally do it because I don't have a lot of strap issues, but I need to tape some straps on a couple of my pieces of gear for various reasons.

I am looking for opinions on what type of tape to use. In the past I have used black athletic tape, but it rubbed off on my undershirts.

Looking for your advice guys.

On my Douglas (pre Delta-Flex harness), I used white athletic tape as it was readily available and no one ever saw it anyway. Never noticed residue on any clothes, but I had to be careful how I applied it so the straps didn't pull out of the tape. I think I still have the roll in my bag even though I don't need it anymore.

I'd give hockey tape a try. You'll probably have to order it online because I don't know if there are any hockey shops in Tyler. If there are any ice rinks around, you might try there though.

Barring that, you may check out some of the Gorilla Glue type tapes but that's a slightly more permanent solution.

I use athletic tape on mask, chest protector, and shins. No problem with it rubbing off on my clothes. Always black so its not noticeable.

Thanks for the feedback. I am hearing things that I thought I would hear. I will probably go the athletic tape route and see how it goes. I also have a roll of the gorilla tape.

Electrical Tape!!!!!!!!

Added

Guys electrical tape....it works, it lasts, it is black, it is inexpensive at your local hardware store.

Remember KISS!!!!!!!

Why do you want to spend money on tape and so much effort on taking care of loose strap ends.

I wear black gaffers tape. Lots of adhesion, no residue at all when you remove the tape. It's expensive and tough to find at your local hardware store, cost me about $12 per roll for 2" diameter tape (a lot of it)

I had not thought about gaffers tape. I use it all the time at church taping down sound equipment for the fact that it leaves no residue. I think I will give that a shot. I know where I can find a roll just laying around.

I used some lightweight fishing line and hand sewed the straps. This holds forever, leaves no residue and can easily be removed. This was not an original idea. I stole it from someone on some board somewhere.

Black electric tape and athletic tape don't hold well enough for me. I started using Gorilla Glue tape this year and it works a lot better.

I've thought about sewing mine as well. Much, much more durable. But now I have about 500 yards of gaffer's tape, so maybe I should tape for a while?

Depends on how much tape you use!
