I've got the plate for a 12u game.

Batter turns and looks at the 3rd base coach who is flashing all sorts of signs. He gets back in the box and looks at me and says "I have no idea what he just said"

I think it happens more often than not.

I see kids with puzzled looks after taking signs. :shakehead:

Ah yes I love some of the coaches at that age (one of mine included).

Multiple indicators, a minimum of three signs per session, the list goes on. It's like coaches and trick plays in football...we need to get the fundamentals down first.

I remember when I played PONY my coach gave us this complex system for everything - indicators, hit and run, the whole nine yards... There were 8 teams in the league so we played a double round robin regular season of 14 games.

Through the first round robin (7 games), we had screwed up the signs so many times that the coach basically said screw it and changed it so that there were two signs - if he crossed his arms, steal... If he didn't - stay where you were unless the ball was hit or got to the backstop.

The teams were all so confused the second time around. "He didn't do anything! How did they know to steal?!"
