For those of you that work wood bat games, this may not be new. For me it is:

Today is the first time i have been hit in the mask with a piece of shrapnel from a broken bat. Somewhat surreal.

I have never had it happen. I have been hit by my share of whole bats but never shrapnel. I did dodge a piece of bat in the infield last year.

Never been hit - knock on wood- but I've seen more broken bats already this year than last. One pitcher sawed of 3 bats in a row. Another the sharp end went into the ground and stood the barrel upright.

Not that I was anything more than a bench warmer playing, but batters need to learn to use a wooden bat. With the aluminum bats batters can turn what would have been shattered bats into hits and even HRs. Just Sunday I had a batter Jack one off the handle with a wooden bat it wouldn't have happened.

That's the thing... after working college & high school games in the spring (PING! ) we now get into summer where many tournaments and some straight-up games (Stan Musial) are using wood bats. It's surprising to see so many batters come up and the labels are not 'up', where they should be. :fuel:

I think I am seeing 2 to 3 bats break every Adult Wood Bat Game I do.

Don't understand why so many are breaking.

Haven't been hit with one yet.

Did take a lot of shots yesterday in one game.

3 to the mask, one of which turned my mask side ways....which is what should happen if mask is adjusted properly.

1 to the Nutty Buddy....boy I love that piece of Protective Equipment.

One hard one to CP and a couple to Shins.

Never took that many shots in one game before.

Partner commented that I earned my game fee after the game.
