Ooops is correct. Was it consistently called all game? I will agree it was pretty low.

I don't know, just saw the replay of it on Baseball Tonight last night .....then saw it this morning on the UmpiresFantasyEjection League :)

p.s. I doubt that pitch was called all game ;)

As low as it may have been, how many pitches are looked at in a game? It's bad but we all miss one that bad at some point. Maybe lose focus or just see it different for some reason. I don't know. Maybe that is his zone. Hopefully, it won't ever be mine.

Even if he thought about it afterwards, can't take it back once called. Also, prime example of not taking any additional abuse even if you know you messed up. I wish others would take that note.

If you will eject them when you know you are right, eject them even if you know you are wrong. Don't take any additional abuse. It won't make you feel any better.

Let's be honest here guys, really ....... when was the last time you saw a pro call a pitch like that a strike? YES, we ALL miss a few here and there, but we're not in the show either. We all know that's NOT his zone .... he missed one, ... it was pretty clear it was way too low, it led to 2 ejections, ...so I posted it ......

Ummmmmmmmmmm.... Dale Scott on David Ortiz earlier this year. About 6 inches or so outside it appeared. That and a half swing led to Terry Fancona's EJ. Maybe he missed it, maybe it was his zone. It wasn't really good for that level. In fact, it was one of your threads.

Even they miss them. And, yes, they miss them that bad. Hard to keep focus sometimes when calling 162 games with little time in between games. I know some here do more.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, DS's pitch was wide ....

I was referring to 'low' ..... i.e.; ...'a pitch like that'?

Isn't it nice to see that's it's just not US that have a bad call, game, etc? :)

most MLB guys only work about 120-130 games.. they get 4 weeks of vacation a season..

remember guys they are wearing a black hat, so we shouldn't be talking about it right?.....that last part was for thunderheads...LOL

Well, it could have been worse. It could have been a strike and then HW yells at F2 for not liking it. This is just the opposite of that. He called it a strike and then had to take care of the batter. At least this time, the batter made the scene and not the umpire.

Even though there isn't any video of it, I'm sure there have been others this year called that low as well. Just no highlights came of it. Different batters act better than Rolen most of the time.

I can guarantee, just about ANY pro would have acted like Rolen on a call like that.....

But that doesn't make it right.

It doesn't matter what the call is, it is a judgement call and Rolen shouldn't have reacted that way. HW was exactly correct in his WHOOOSH. When a MLB player reacts like that there are millions of young kids that see it and think they can do that. They also see him get EJ ed but few will remember that. They will remember "My guy(Rolen) argued on a pitch he didn't like. I can too".

It was low and probably wasn't called all game. Too late now. It's called and done. And we will all make at least a few of those in our lifetime. We just don't have all the TV cameras replaying it 15oo times and a bunch of "know-it-all" talking heads griping about it.

Ordonez didn't. And, he thought the pitch was down by reading his lips. He didn't get in the umpire's face after the call. Leyland did after touching the player. :) And, this would probably have no video if it wasn't for the aftermath.

It happens more than we know. The only difference is how the player reacts to the call. That is the only thing which makes it to the highlights. Even on ones thought to be missed this bad.

Big difference ...

The pitch to Ordonez was at least borderline .........

Look, no one is going to agree here, so ...again, ....I like to post ejections and to show why, and to show that ALL of us umps can get one wrong here and there, pro or not....

Okay the pitch looked low. But it's 1 eff'n pitch. Sure it was for K3 buthow much impact did that really have on the game? The Reds were down by 5 in the bottom of the 6th. Rolen had 2 strikes already, how did he get those. Did he stare at a cock shot or swing at a bad one???

So bad I want to say something to someone who argues balls and strikes thinking I missed one, "And the one in the opposite box you swung at was good?"

A agree w/ Mr. Umpire about Wendelstedt taking care of business. It happened, it won't be reversed, sure your pissed off go ahead and make your comment as you walk back to the dugout and get back on with the game. A bad call doesn't entitle you to abuse the ump.

Haaa!! I love that one Warren (bold) ...very nice!:Spit_20Laugh:

Notice my original post, ...one word, ...WOW, then the link ....

Here it is in a nutshell:

1) called strike 3 on a pitch that was pretty dang low! let's all admit, that even though HW is a seasoned vet, you don't see many missed like that. You just don't.

2) Nice heated arguments

3) Ejections

4) HW DID, however, under all circumstances, kept his cool ....stood his ground, but kept his cool.....

If you can't learn anything here, then ...well, ......you know:meditation:

Ordonez didn't think it was. He was even pointing at the ground. F2 even caught it almost on the ground. Granted it was a breaking ball. However, he handled himself much better.

Rolen overreacted as usual. This isn't the first time Rolen has done something like this. And, on far better pitches than that one.

I'm sorry, but calling one that low... that sucked.

Yes, we all make mistakes, blah blah freakin' blah blah....

but that just plain sucked.

Have I done it? Yes. Do I think I sucked in doing it? Yes.

Thank you Brian!:rantoff:

I was starting to think that I was the only person to be honest about something that just wasn't right for that level. :Spit_20Laugh:

We've done it too, and it sucks when we do it! But they're on TV:nod:

Well they are human just like the rest of us and can miss a pitch/kick a call on occasion.

What really sucks is that this may be the only pitch out of 200+ that HW missed last night but thanks to the internet that pitch is the subject of discussion today because a crybaby player decided to react like a jackass to it.

Don't say this. It may be perceived as protecting or defending a MLB umpire who missed a pitch. Oh no! It might look like you are saying the pitch was OK for that level. :rantoff:

No one ever said that pitch should have been called for that level of ball. That pitch should not be called above 12 year olds. But, the point is, as stated above, it was 1 pitch out of 200+. He missed it. Move on.

Was it bad? Yes. Was it low? Yes. Did it suck? Yes. But, the point is he is not the only one to call a pitch that low this year I'm sure. Out of the thousands of pitches called this year, this one can't be the only one. The only reason it is made to be a big deal is b/c of Rolen. Nothing else.

We are not defending what he did. We are saying "Who cares". He missed it. Move on like Rolen should have. There is nothing to learn from this other than "Don't put up with the behavior even if you missed the call".

Nothing more needs to come of it otherwise :Spit_20Laugh:. Which has already been done to be 3 pages.

It's true, no one's arguing that either .... but it made the highlight real! :D

Honestly, ... I agree with just about everything you said above :(

Want me to delete it? I certainly will .....

It's all good discussion guys ......it's what we're here for, yes?
