Hi guys, ...

I'll have my first game this weekend using NFHS rules.

Now, aside from getting the NFHS rulebook(I know, I know ;), ....what are the PRIMARY things / differences that I'll have the most chance encountering:HS ?

Experienced OBR/FED guys, ...please-chime in:nod:

One difference is the sliding into 2nd on a DP situation.

Runner must slide directly into second base not off to the side.

If runner over-slides 2nd and contacts the fielder.

In both case penalty is: Out at 2nd and out at 1st

There are dead ball appeals, obstruction is alwaays delayed dead ball and always at least a one base award. There visits to the mound per game, doesn't reset with a new pitcher, they don't carry over to extra innings, one visit allowed per extra inning. There is no differnce between a mitt and a glove so you can use a first baseman's glove anywhere including pitching and outfield. CR for pitcher or catcher, can't be the same for both. The DH can DH for any position and has reentry rights. If he enters defensively whoever he is DHing for must leave the line-up, has reentry rights but they are both tied to the same position. I will post anymore if I think of any.

Lets see in FED, you can use WOOD bats...lol......

The best thing to do is get both the FED rule book and case book, they are both very helpful and can help in understanding plays and issues. In time, Carl Childress "SMITTY" does a very nice book outlining all of the FED/NCAA and MLB differences, but if you go there first without experience, you will get lost very quickly.

I think he meant 3 visits per game. On the fourth you have to pull the F1. If during one of the 1st 3 visits they pull F1 then that visit doesnt count against you.

When they pull F1 on the 4th visit then with the next F1 has to be pulled on his first visit. Hope I made it clear.

1. If an iff is not (for whatever reason) declared by bupu it is still enforced.

2. Little to no tolerance for ac on the feild, questioning calls, or their  in general.

3. At the pre-game meeting ask the question "Coaches, are all of your players properlylegally equipt?" and get a "yes" out of both coaches.

Make sure it's a verbal yes, not just a nod of the head.

Good info Jax. Let me just add that runners are never required to slide but if they do it must be a legal slide. No pop up or rolling slide. Cleats can not be at knee level. No MC of course.

A runner may slide or run in a direction away from the fielder to avoid making contact or altering the play.

The force play slide rule applies at all bases including home. Runner must go directly into the base. If the runner does not and his actions affect the play then you enforce the interference.

Thanks everyone....the DH yesterday went without incident and consisted of two good games. Good pitching, good hitting and good fielding! What a difference between u13 and u16:yippie:
