One thing which has unfortuanately been overshadowed in the Jim Joyce situation is that Ken Griffey Jr. retired yesterday.

While I'm not a Seattle fan I have to say I truley respect Ken Griffey Jr. A class act who brought his own style into the game and was a natural talent.

When I think of Ken Griffey Jr I cant help but to think about what could have been. Unfortunately he became injury prone and we will never know.

I never got to see him play in person. When I lived outside of Baltimore even as an O's fan I would go to certain games to see the opponents. I went to see Ricky Henderson, and he did steal a base. I went to an O's game once to see Jr. unfortunately he was not in the line up that game.

A player like him does not come around that often with a combination of raw natural tallent, a good personality, and no baggage to drag him down.

That guy made the best Nintendo 64 games ever...

oh, yeah, and he was an alright baseball player

:banghead:

I'll miss Griffey Jr., from what I read he was always a good guy, and my goodness he could hit the ball. See ya in Cooperstown Junior.

In his prime he was one of the best with that sweet swing. Unfortunately he hung around a few too many seasons and that is how some will remember him. Hard to beleive he is that old now, seems like just a couple years ago he was among the best of the top tier players.

+1. I remember getting his rookie card as a pre-teen.

Griffey will be missed. It would be amazing to see what would have happened for him had he not been injured all those seasons. I'm sure he won't totally disappear from baseball though. There is talk that he will still have a related job with Seattle. In what capacity that will be, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Ditto.

He has a certain grace and style that belies his natural ability, in other words, he made it look so easy. It is unfortunate about all the injuries.

I got to see him play against the Rangers back in...'97/'98(?), not sure....but either way, I do remember because it stood out so much that he spent more time giving autographs then any of the Rangers' players. And I will also remember him gracing many a highlight reel w/ his spectacular plays in the field.

Nonetheless, he truly is a class act.

I really liked the Forward and comments he provided for Durwood Merrill's book, "You're Out & You're Ugly Too!"

Too bad his retirement announcement was so completely overshadowed by the Joyce call. Wish him all the best.
