If I don't call it then would it NOT be an IFF even if in reality I blew the call. (Catchable with normal effort, fair ball, etc)

IN FED, the IFF calls itself. (I learned that from REI)

DP may stand, although, I think you can correct things here.

In OBR, 9.02(c ) allows you to correct the call.

Simply disallow a DP.

The players have to be aware of the situation too should an umpire fall asleep at the wheel.

I can swear that all codes allow you to "correct" your mistake. I dont have proof for OBR and NCAA. But I do know for a fact that you can correct this mistake in FED.

You can call IFF retroactively in all codes to take away a cheap double play. FED covers it in the rules 7.4.1g "the situation determines the out, not the declaration" But in NCAA you have to use 3-6b and OBR 9.01c to get the plays right.

It's a point not covered in the rule book which is why you can't be a great umpire if you're just a rule book umpire.
