I have my opinion on where the Umpire should have went, but I will be quiet. right or wrong call doesn't matter.

AND it only takes one post .....I thought this was going to be mentioned.... :)

At 1:11 the tag is applied and the hand is just off the bag, incredible call. The umpire didn't stay inside because usually that play has everyone there at once on the inside. He was already shifting, then he slides which changed everything.

Of course, in a 2 man, I would be inside with no doubt. Plus, being inside, the runner's body will not block the tag view. I think I would always take this inside 2 or more crew size. But, I prefer to go inside as much as I can b/c the view is "usually" better for plays at 1B. Especially on close ones where the runner's body can always become a factor.

Very close play and at 1:11 it does appear to be the correct call.

It was a GREAT call! Wow!

And his being in foul territory allowed him to see exactly where and when Braun's hand hit the bag. There's often an imperfect position when calling an unusual play, and this one was an unusual play principally due to the headfirst fadeaway slide. The angle he chose wound up being pretty damned good. And he swung around a little at the end; he wasn't that far around when he saw the tag.

The 1:11 mark is really it. You can see Albert's glove bending making the tag with Braun's fingers not yet in contact with the bag. He looks out on one of the other angles too.

GREAT call!
