$.05, right?

Is it a trick?

It's not a trick. The first answer you get supposedly will tell something about you. The problem was made by Harvard University. It's not really about gettiing the right answer, just about what you think originally. A group of umpires, IMO, will probably do better initially than an a group of non-umpires.

BTW, It was a night game.

One more thing you can't have in Ontario. That $1.05 bat would be $1.19 out of your pocket, and the $.05 ball would be $.06. For an overall total of $1.25.

Damn sales tax.

My first instinct was 10 cents but I knew it was a thinker. So I came up with 5 cents after thinking it through for a second.

So what does that say about me?

According to Harvard university a person who is intuitive in nature will come up with 10 cents like I did. This person is more likely to take things at face value. They will look at something, make a quick assesment and go with it. If they get the correct answer ( the first time), which is 5 cents, they are more of a analytical type person. They will not make a quick guess but rather think it through from the beggining. I figured umpires would fair better with getting the correct answer due to the general nature of umpiring. Things aren't always what they seem. Especially the rules part of it. However, I am an umpire and I kicked the crap out of it.

Okay I'm a complete dolt unsure.gif explain to me how you get $0.05, I've looked at it a few times and cant get it.

Total cost is $1.10. Bat costs $1.00 more than the ball. Ball costs $0.05, bat costs $.05 plus $1.00.

$0.05 + $1.05 = $1.10.
