I watched bits and pieces of his interview on MLB last night. He's an ought right liar and takes all baseball fans for fools. He said something to the effect of "He only did it to help him recover from injury." WTF

He sure must have had a hell of a lot of injuries to go from this

To this:

He's just trying to "come clean" so he can get into the HoF, which will never happen.

Don't get me wrong I was as rivited to my seat as anybody else during the Sosa/ McGwire battle. And was a fan of many of these guys before I realized they were using. Many, including dare I say Barry Bonds, had tremendous talent with out the juice and would probably have gotten in had they not cheated.

Agreed. It would be interesting to find out if HGH Mac's hat size got bigger the way Bonds' did.

I too saw part of his interview last night, and got disgusted with that BS about recovering from injuries, and "no, I don't think it helped me hit home runs" . What a crock. The bulk of his home runs came in the last half of his career. He's not fooling anyone. In the first half of his career, he hit 40+ HRs on only two occasions: 49 in 1987 (when he was one of the "Bash Brothers" along with ... hmmm... Mr. Steroid Boy #2, Jose Canseco) and then 42 in 1992. Then he's got two injury years in '93 and '94, where he played in only 74 total games, and then things start looking rather curious... he comes off those back-to-back injury years and hits 39 in '96, 58 in 97, and of course, '98 the big juice year, he hits 70. In '99, it's 65, and then production drops rapidly in '00 and 01... what a curiousity, it was in the late '90s that the rumors started to spread. Remember when he was being inteviewed at his locker in STL, and he claimed he never took anything (illegal) but there was that odd looking little bottle of pills sitting right there in his locker?

I turned off the interview early from sheer disgust; Warren, did the interviewer ever ask him to explain how he could be hitting MORE home runs in the twilight of his career, as opposed to hitting them at the beginning?

Bonds record is the same way. His seasonal average for home runs for 162 game season is 41. Suddenly in one season he can hit 73? That number stands out like a sore thumb.

Here's my reference for baseball stats - it's a great site:

Both McGwire and Bonds should have their names stricken from the record books. Selig won't do it because he's too much of a pantywaist. What's Bonds going to do? Sue MLB? OK, Barry. You've lied before Congress... now let's talk about baseball records....

Unfortunately I had it on while doing some shores and wasn't fully paying attention. But what I did see was laughable. I didn't see him get asked about why he hit hir homers later in his career. I'm sure they will replay it soon enough.

Okay Chief.

The main benefit of your steroids/HGH is recovery. By using them alone, you do not get stronger. You have to still hit the weights. When you lift to gain strength, you break your muscles down, and your body will heal/recover naturally. When using steroids/HGH, you body heals/recovers faster allowing you to workout harder and more often. As you probably know, a 162 game baseball season is a grind. How many times have we seen various records on pace to be broken at the All-Star break, but the player falls off in August and September. Some of that is due to nagging injuries and the grind of the season. So, if you are taking steroids/HGH, those nagging injuries heal and don't take away from the players production near the end of the season. If you have noticed, there have been just as many pitchers (recovery between starts) taking steroids/HGH as position players.

With that being said, HE CHEATED, and so did everyone else who took steroids/HGH. What the PEDs allowed McGwire to do, is stay on the field and not have to sit out with nagging injuries later in his career. As McGwire, Bonds, and....., got up in their careers, they became much more knowledgeable and smarter hitters. But, instead of age and injuries keeping them on the bench, steroids and HGH kept them in the game. Thus, more homeruns.
