Just a quick question to the masses. I know that in HS a pitcher can't wear a white or grey sleeve. However They still must be even length correct? Which means a pitcher can't wear a black "lebron" sleeve either b/c they're not of equal length....? This was an item of contention in our association meeting last season. I would just like a rule ref and thoughts for hs, ncaa, obr.

In HS the compression sleeve can be worn and is not considered part of the uniform sleeve so it doesnt need to be the same length on both sides. In college the compression sleeve must be covered and must be the same on both sides.

Ok I agree with you so far. However what is the rule reference for the sleeve not being part of the uniform vs uneven length? B/c now what do you tell a coach when his first pitcher has a "sleeve" not part of the uniform, and the next one has a under armor shirt that is cut at uneven lengths which is part of the uniform.....? That is the root of my question.

It's all Iverson's fault.

They're also just a fashion statement 96% of the time. For the other 4% (I'm making the numbers up - don't start a new thread) it's probably a medical thing.

Some day they will become uncool and folks will stop wearing them.

So anyhow, I'd rule the undershirt was clothing thus subject to the rule.

Pedro Martinez had to change undershirts once relativelky recently due to uneven sleeve lengths.

I think it was in one of the recent set of rules interpretations that the NFHS sends out every year. Of course Im remembering other stuff that didnt happen and forgetting stuff that did so I might be full of stuff. lol

Rule 1-4

ART. 2

For individual players, uniform sleeve lengths may vary. However, sleeves of each individual player shall be approximately the same length and shall not be ragged, frayed or slit. If the pitcher's undershirt sleeves are exposed, they shall not be white or gray. A pitcher shall not wear any item on his hands, wrists or arms which may be distracting to the batter. A pitcher shall not wear white or gray exposed undershirt sleeves or any white or gray sleeve that extends below the elbow. A vest and coordinating shirt that is worn underneath is viewed as a type of uniform top.
