I still think CB Bukner's two missed calls were ridiculous. I don't care how fast that play was, you're an MLB umpire.

I think this move is more for show than for effect. They are trying to build fan's confidence in the umps again. I don't know that the results will be any better and I think it short changes the guys who were in line to work their first World Series. To say any of the MLB umps are lacking in experience is laughable. As much as fans gripe about it there's no lack of experience among the umpires at the Major League level. Guccione, Hickox, or Barksdale who are listed as the guys with the least tenure each have a ton of experience under their belts.

IMO it would be great to see crews nominated as a group to work the playoffs based on merit, not whose turn it is in the barrel. Then the crew chiefs would choose who they wanted to round out their crews as they switch to 6 man crews. While I don't see it being an issue in these playoffs there is something to be said for working in a group where you are very familiar with the way guys work. This could increase the crews confidence.
