Honigs Sale

The last couple of weeks I have been browsing for sales to stock up for next season. For those that like Honig's shirts, all colors are on sale on the web for $21.95. $11 off the regular price. I know that they did not grade out number one in Midwest Ump's review, but it is a high quality shirt for a great price. The long sleeve shirts are also on sale.

I know that have been rumors and pics of the new K1 for next season, but if you want to pick up an old one, they are $99 during the sale. (I will be sticking with my Gold) It looks like the sale runs till the end of the month....no I do not work for Honigs...just trying to save everyone a couple of bucks.

Anyone think this sale is preparation for changing the shirt, is style or possibly in producer?

I might be looking at some new shirts soon and getting a couple different types. But especially I want to buy one as a Christmas present.

From what I hear, the sale is so they can move stock on hand - there are no major changes in the works.

I ahd heard at one point they switched suppliers this year who put the big ugly Hoenig emblem on the back. My understanding is they are going back to the original supplier. I don't think the shirt itself is changing, just who makes it.

I called and inquired about any changes for next season. I did not ask about logo placement. The guy I talked to said that the shirts will be produced overseas for next season. They have been made in the USA. He acted like they are expecting a slight quality drop off.

I ordered two on Tuesday and they came in the other day. The red one had a tag for the logo placement and the light blue with r/w/b trim just had the logo embroidered like always on the back. I forgot how small Honig's shirts run. I wear XXL in Gerry Davis and Smitty, but the XXL that ordered from Honig's was tight even without my Gold on underneath so I had to send them back and get XXXLs. You might keep that in mind if you do not normally wear Honig's shirts but want to take advantage of this sale.

I'm pretty sure that suppliers do what their client asks them to do... I think it's safe to assume that the patch on the back shirts was done at the client's request. :TD:

Certainly don't like to hear they expect a quality drop off. While I should be ok on shirts for the upcoming season I am starting to lean towards Smitty or Ump-Attire when I need a new shirt. Hopefully Jim has all the colors out by then. Right now, the only shirts I have are Honig's.

I called Ump-attire a couple of weeks ago when I started seeing all these sales pop up because I was planning on waiting on them to buy some shirts for the upcoming season. Right now they have plans to do black, but nothing certain beyond that at this point. Things could have changed in the last couple of weeks. I went ahead and ordered some Smitty's that I got for $19 each and a couple of Honig's to get the other colors that I needed. It has been years since I wore a Honig's shirt...I have been wearing GD's. I forgot that they are not that soft. I am much more impressed with the feel and sizing of the Smitty's shirts. In the future I will try and Ultimate from Ump-attire, but I need more of a color selection. Here in Texas we mainly were Pro-Blue, Black, and Cream for High School games. I have a bunch of other colors as well since they are approved, but I anticipate wearing those only for little league games and fall ball stuff.

I have a Smitty long sleeve in navy and black and they are really nice, just like their short sleeve shirts. I think Jim sells them and I know Purchase Officials sells them too. Check eBay as well because I've seen them on there for as low as $20 before.

Yeah! I like the Ump-Attire shirts, they feel better than my Cliff-Keen shirt. The ONLY downside is the size of the sleeve at the cuff, I don't like the wrap around the arm look (like in the pictures in Jim's site and my arms are small).

For now, I just bought two black Honig's shirts on sale. One for me and one for a my crew-mate.

I just got my two umpire shirts in the mail today from Honigs. The MLB power blue one was made in USA on the label and the MLB black one had made in pakistan on the label. Both were XXL. The MLB powder blue one was a lot more loose than the black one. Much easier to get on and off and the black one was tight. It was very odd.

That is interesting. The two that I got were too small for me, but I sent them back. I usually wear XXL in all my umpiring gear, but I am going to have to go with XXXL in the Honig's shirts. They replacement have not arrived yet. I am expecting them any day now. The ones I sent back were both made in the USA. I did not realize that they had already switched suppliers.

The XXL are going to have to be for bases, it's actually somewhat difficult to get on without my CP. That's how I found out they were different in the chest area in size. The powder blue went on much easier and fits looser. I will wait a while before I buy the other size. I went with them because they were on sale and I would rarely rare the black or powder blue as I'm one of few what would even have them.

Some guys in my area swear by Honigs shirts and will only wear that brand, but from the sound of things this summer and fall, I want nothing to do with them. Ugly patches, lower quality, sizing inconsistency....no thanks. I'll stick with Smitty shirts for now.

The Smittys that I bought through purchase officials on ebay have a nice feel. I also really like the look of the Gerry Davis Signature series that I wore last season. They are a little heavy for summer ball, but look and feel great. The only reason I am getting the two Honig's shirts is because of the price and the fact that availability of Red and Powder Blue w r/w/b trim in the GD and Smitty is not great.

I will eventually try an ultimate from Ump-attire. I love the ultimate Football shirt that I ordered from them.
