:ranton:As much as I am a die-hard Red Sox fan, this article pisses me off :tantrum:.

The call being tossed around is a ball call that clearly went over the plate and according to ESPN's "K-Zone", it was a definent strike. But, being a die-hard Red Sox fan, I watched the whole game. This was no different then other low ball calls that Rick Reed was calling. In other words, he was very consitant.

I hate K-Zone so much its not even funny. The way Reed was calling the game, that was a ball. It was only maginfied because it could have ended the game and "K-Zone" said it was a strike...:banghead: Notice the keys words :"K-Zone" thought it was a strike.

The article is just terrible. It is not fair to bring an accusation like this into discussion. It is not right to say a ballpark can affect the way an umpire calls a game. We call 'em as we see it, nothing more or less.

Of course, Scioscia complained after the game (being the :shakehead: he is) and this story took off. Watching him right now, he is complaining about everything. He is such a :wow:...

So, my point is "K-Zone" and all that other garbage, is well, GARBAGE!!! The article brings into question the ALL UMPIRE'S professionalism...Not right, not right at all:BD:

And overall, if Scioscia had not said a word and not have been a :WTF, there would be nothing to talk about...:rantoff:

This story is even better. Wow, I'm actually a big fan of Mark Wagner, I think he's a great umpire, and person. He's actively involved in charity, as well as is one of the best dressed umpires in the game. If we're going to talk about unprofessionalism, let talk about Bill Hohn, or the many others.

I also saw Wegner jawing back and forth at JC Romero of the Phillies on the mound. A couple calls went against Romero and he let Wegner know that he thought the pitches were strikes. Wegner then takes off his mask and shouts back and forth to Romero...:shakehead:

I've seen the good side of Wegner, and the short-tempered side of him too. He is a great umpire though.

and i personally am not questioning the umpire's professionalism (i would never do such a thing). i am merely saying that i think it is ridiculous that umpire's are influenced into making calls for the home team to be on the crowd's side, as the article i metioned says they are. as i said, we call 'em as we see em. the guy who wrote the article i posted is questioning the professionalism of the umpires (ridiculous :shakehead:). none of the umpires in the mlb are unprofessional at all (well...). I think Reed and his crew are one of the more respectable crews in the buisness.

sorry to confuse people in my title of the thread...

I saw the game on TV and I thought it was down but it hard to tell where it went accross the plate. It could have been on the knee or just below it, but it was consistant with what he was calling. I saw it in a local watering hole and was asked about it. I said the K zone is a piece of garbage that is wrong as often as right on borderline pitches.

K-Zone or any of the TV strike zones are all bad. I know we'll never know, but I would like to see what MLB's ZE said.

I really hare when coaches and others complain about a call or two that cos them the game. Regardless of the check swing or ball 4 to Green, The Angels put themselves in the situation by getting the bases loaded in the first place, or how about the previous 7 runs the Angles allowed. I'm sure they didn't have any determination in the outcome of the game? It was just a couple of perceived bad calls by the umpires which lost the game for them.:shakehead:

Scioscia plays exactly as many home games as the Red Sox. If you check the attendance figures, Angel Stadium drew 3,000 more fans (average) than Fenway last year. This should negate the "laid-back California fan" theory. Therefore, if his theory is correct, he should gain the benefit of at least as many "subconcious calls" for his team [as U]against him.

....Mike Scioscia's a respected professional; playing the "victim card" is beneath him.

Guys, ask yourselves .... if a coach/manager complained on the field that you "cost them two runs" or "cost them the game",

Would you:

a) Eject him.

:wow: Take it.

c) Warn him.

d) Agree with him.

I've said it 1000 times and this will make 1001...

If it wasn't for our incessant "cheatin' for the other team, because they already paid us off, and our taking it away from the kids/players, et al,:crybaby2:" then just MAYBE for once, a TEAM themselves would be forced to actually PLAY THE GAME THEMSELVES--and be forced to decide the outcome on their own without our "help" for the other team:shrug:...

I really have that as my personal baseball fantasy..I get soooo tired some days/nights having to carry the entire game on MY shoulders rather than somebody else getting out on the field and going through the motions of playing the game and winning it or losing it...

I've tried looking up my stats online to see just how I'm doing..Dayum'ed if I can find my batting average (gotta be hittin' over .1000 at least--all for the other team), tried looking to see how many errors I've made that allowed the other team to score a winning run, how many walk off home runs that I hit --all of course for the other team, can't even find just how many swinging strike outs that I erroneously called or how many perfect games that I pitched--you guessed it--ALL for the other team.....:shakehead:

On a serious note, you can pull up the video on Nick Green's AB on MLB..I tried linking it to U-E but it wouldn't work for some reason. Being a BOSOX fan notwithstanding, the check swing was obvious and the ESPN replay proved it. The Angels catcher obviously tried pulling the pitch for ball 4--

And we all know why a catcher does that!:wow:

great points...

and yes, the check swing i thought was a strike...

but napoli framed it...he brought his glove up and that is why he didnt argue when reed called it a ball...he knew it was a ball

It would be a HTBT sitch, BUT, I am with OK96 on heaving him immediately if it was a "cost them 2 runs" blahblah. To me, in that context, it sounds like the game is probably still in progress so, >>

On the "cost them the game" I would read that to mean that the game is over, and while you still have "juice" (under FED anyway) until you leave the field, if you  him then you're gonna get the proverbial " hey the game's over, how you gonna toss me..." ect ect..Sure, he could MAYBE get penalized by YOUR association or state for the heave ho, but....

Of course, the vorciferous-ness of either insult could only hasten said rat's immediate departure, hence the HTBT 'ness of the sitch..

Which is why Reed took the action that he did.
