I’m from the Netherlands, and I’ve been roaming around this very good site for a

while now. I’ve read a lot of very interesting discussions, and found the answer to

rule questions pretty easily in the rules-forum.

One thing that makes things about rules in this forum difficult for me is the almost

constant mentioning of a number of different rule sets, where we have only one

(a slightly adapted version of the MLB-rules). And of course the (minor but

sometimes major) differences between the rules in those sets.

Does anyone know a site where I can find those different sets, or, what’s more

important, where I can find a list of differences between the sets?

That would make the reading of some discussions a lot easier, and would prevent

me from making a fool of myself when I wan t to contribute to a discussion.

Thanks in advance, Rob.

Carl Childress issues the BRD (Baseball Rules Differences) every year you can find it here...

http://shop.officiating.com/x/product/brd2009

I bought this this year and use it a lot. The three major rule sets are OBR (pro) NCAA (College) and Fed (HS).

The "BRD" also sometimes lists NAIA, which is another college organization, when it differs from NCAA.

In my experience, Little League, Babe Ruth and the three Adult leagues that I do use OBR with many modifications, for participation and safety mostly.

As mentioned the BRD does a nice job of explaining the differences between the rule sets. There are three main sets of rules, OBR which is pro rules, Fed or NFHS which is high school in the US, and NCAA which is college. NAIA is another college set but is rarely quoted. Different youth organizations use some form of OBR as a basis a with age appropriate and safety rules added. Fed is a strange quirky set of rules that many refer to as Fedlandia. NCAA is fairly close to OBR but they stray some. The BRD will help to understand some of the FED and NCAA but only if it is different. If it isn't in the differences then default to OBR.
