I just bought the champion hard shell protector and got it delivered yesterday. I haven't taken it into battle yet, but the quality looks good. I also have tried it on and it fits extremly well. I am excited to get it on for some games tomorrow night and test it out. I have tried on and looked at all the WV models and in my opinion, this product is just as good at less than half the cost. Only difference to me seems to be the padding on the Champion is maybe just a little less thick. Best of all, it cost me under $50 with shipping included. Can't beat that with a stick!

I've known a few guys who have had this and they either love it or hate it, there is no middle ground. Most of the negatives have been b/c of fit and comfort. Look forward to your thoughts after a few games.

I have worn the Wv hand me down and didnt cover my ribs because I am 6'1 so I switched to the champion 15 inch in my 2nd season hit in the belly and boy did it sting. I sold my champ to my assoc and ordered the 17. In my opinion because of the liner it cleans up well. The hand me down WV it had salt stains but withthe removable padding that enabled you remove and wash but I could never put it back on right. I AM POOR And for the price of the champion you can't go wrong

I am only a little over 5'8 but I went ahead and got the 15 inch one for a little better coverage. I had a buddy take a shot in the stomach a couple weeks back wearing his west vest. We worked together a week later and he was still sore from it. I like that Champion has the different sizes. Anyway, I am working a high school tournament this weekend so I will finally get to give it a test run.

The one gripe I ever had with the Platinum is that it barely covers the ribcage. Below that, you're on your own. You don't get it there very often, and usually it bounces first, so it doesn't really hurt.

I got hit on the bottom of my ribs when I had my Platinum and I thought I was going to die.. it dropped me to my knees.. next day I put it up for sale and bought myself the WV Gold. Couldn't be happier.

Nate, I thought the Platinum was about an inch longer than the Gold. Why did the Gold give you better protection in the stomach area?

Nate I'm interested in your reply as well. I have the Platinum now and the one complaint I have is that it doesn't cover your ribs very well. Is the Gold longer than the Platinum?

I'm thinking of switching to the Gold and selling my Platinum. Aren't you a thinner guy like me? Which size of Gold do you have and does it fit better than the Platinum? Sorry for the 20 questions.

I am doing that without having to take the crushing rib shot.

But once I did go from one of those Diamonds to the Platinum after a crushing clavicle shot.
