Fun Game Tonight

I was assigned 5 Legion games this weekend, 2 yesterday, and 3 today, due a to a scheduling snafu. Usually, my association will not assign more than a DH in one day, but my partner and I accepted a 3rd game today. We worked a DH in a single A wood bat tourney this morning, then headed over for our 3rd game this afternoon, a AA game, 4:00 start time.

Going by what the pay was in the arbiter, we assumed that we were going 7 in our nightcap, and when I confirmed with coaches at our plate meeting, they told us it was 9 inning game. Ok, we mentally switch gears, and get the game on. At the end of 2, it's a 4-3 game, and I figure we're in for a 3-3.5 hour donnybrook. Then, the baseball gods blessed us with some of the best pitching and defense that I have seen in a couple of years. Both pitchers are hitting their spots, and I got "in the zone" on the dish. I even started doing the same exact things after each half inning, not wanting to change my routine at all. I felt like a pitcher throwing a no hitter, not wanting to talk to anyone, or break from my routine in any way.

In the middle of the eighth, the home team HC, came by me and stopped, and said to me, "Win or lose, you are doing one hell of a job back there. Your zone is the best I have seen in a very long time." I replied with a chuckle and, "Thanks a lot, now I'm going to be horseSH*# the rest of the game." We both had a laugh and continued on.

Thankfully, I wasn't, and we ended with the same score we had after 2 innings, and finished 9 innings (8.5) in 2 hours, 5 minutes. It was a nice ending to a long weekend.
